The River of Kawthar

Asalamu alaykum,                                                                                                                               Date: 27th January 2022

Recently our fellow students have took part in a competition, to draw and describe the River of Kawthar. We had many submissions, Masha Allah. Amelia, my classmate won, Masha Allah. She presented a beautiful drawing of the River of Kawthar that showed an image of what she believes the River of Kawthar looks like, based on what we learnt from the translation of Surah Al-Kawthar.

Every submission was amazing, which made it extremely difficult to choose, Masha Allah. However, Amelia’s piece of art won everyone’s hearts because of the beautiful gems she stuck at the bottom of her river.

If you don’t know much about the River of Kawthar, here are some facts:

  • The River of Kawthar was introduced to the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) in Surah Al-Kawthar.

  • It was a special gift which Allah (SWT) instructed the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) to show gratitude for.

  • In this Surah Allah also instructed the Prophet to give charity.

  • It is a river that’s banks are made from gold, and its bed is of rubies and pearls.

  • Its soil is more fragrant that musk, its water is sweeter than honey, and whiter than snow.

  • If a person drank from it, they would never feel thirsty ever again after it, Subhan Allah.

May Allah allow us all to drink from the beautiful River of Kawthar - Ameen

We must strive follow the example of the Prophet (PBUH) and his righteous companions. By following his example, we can hope that Allah (SWT) will have mercy on us and honour us by allowing us to drink from Al-Kawthar. If we fail to emulate his example, we will be the losers on that day suffering from unbearable thirst. We seek refuge in Allah (SWT), and once again ask to make us from amongst those who can drink from Al-Kawthar - Ameen.
